Uanset børstens form påføres mascaraen fra vippekanten og udad i en let zigzagbevægelse. Vipperne på det øverste øjenlåg børstes nedefra og op, vipperne på det nederste øjenlåg fra vippekanten og ned.

Gel-mascara påføres med en børste som normal mascara. Den beskytter og plejer vipperne og kan bruges under farvet mascara.
